Your Car Headlights - DIY, How to Fix It?

Fix Your car Headlight in Your OwnCar headlights on the blink? No big deal!! In case you are visualizing trips to your car dealer that will leave you out of pocket, here’s some good news for you. Go about it the right way and you’ll find your self able to handle just about any problem you are likely to have with your
headlights! So how do you go about this cost effective process? Well naturally to begin with, you need to know what’s wrong. If your headlights are not working, you need to evaluate the severity of the problem - whether they are partially functional, whether there is a defective bulb involved or whether there is an electrical fault - which could be a little more difficult to set right. However, your bulb would probably be a good place to start. Do unscrew it and take a close look. If your car is one of the older models, you may find that the whole lens will need to be replaced as this is what serves as the bulb. The new lens will be available at Walmart, priced between $10 and $20. Newer cars have bulbs that can be unscrewed from the back of the headlight. Once again a replacement should be easily available for less than $20 either at Walmart or at a local store that stocks automotive parts.Do replace the new bulb carefully without touching the glass. Did you know that the natural grease on your skin can wear down the bulb or even cause it to pop? Strange but true enough!! Bulb inserted, it’s time to check whether the lights work or not. If they don’t, you now know what the most probable cause is!! If you’ve taken care not to touch the glass etc. as suggested and your lights still don’t respond, you may have to accept that you have an electrical problem on your hands - one that can probably be dealt with by a local mechanic. You may also find that the lens has water in it; should this be the case, look out for a break or perforation of some kind through which the water could have got in. Of course you need to patch up the break, but it’s important to know how it came about in the first place - and where the water came from.
