Young Marmalade approved by Hamster

Young Marmalade, the car insurance firm that caters specifically to young drivers, has received an endorsement from Richard Hammond, Top Gear’s resident Hamster.

In September Young Marmalade launched Provisional Marmalade into the UK marketplace.

Managing Director Crispin Moger has compared Provisional Marmalade to iTunes and Amazon in terms of user-friendliness.

To use it, details are logged in and an advance of circa Ј90 is paid per month, with payments ending once the driving test is passed, or being suspended if a provisional driver wants to take a break from practising.

The policy enables young drivers to have their own insurance coverage rather than being added to their parents’, helping to protect the no claims bonus of mum and dad.

Earlier this month Young Marmalade revealed that research it had commissioned showed that 86% of learner drivers were being ripped off by being charged excessively to be added to their parents’ policies.

The costs were typically Ј2,000-Ј50,000, and are thought to contribute to the 300,000 learner drivers who lack insurance.
