Winter Road Trip Tips
Traveling in the winter months is never easy to do. While it may be easier to travel in nicer weather, sometimes it is necessary to go somewhere in the winter such as holiday time. You need to be extra prepared in the winter since there is always a chance of an
emergency in frigid cold temperatures. Here are some tips to be safe when going away.First of all, before leaving I would listen to the weather report. If there is going to be a snow, ice or sleet storm, I would not travel. It is very risky. You can always leave the next day or day after. If by any chance you do have to travel in a storm or get stuck in one, I would try to find the nearest hotel and just get off the road. You may want to be prepared with chains for your tires. Having snow tires put on before leaving is also a smart idea. Drive very slow if there is a storm. At times I see people going just as fast as if there were normal weather conditions. These are the people who cause accidents or get into one themselves. If you cannot see very well, I would just pull over for a while. This can be very difficult to do in the winter because then you would have to leave the car running to get heat. How long can you do that before running out of gas? If you have to travel in a storm, it is better to stay on well traveled roads. When there are more cars, the roads may be more passable and certain roadways are better plowed than others. As you can see it is much better to avoid traveling in a storm if you know it is on the way.
