Toyota Announces Pricing on Safety Connect

Toyota announced pricing and details on its new proprietary telematics and GPS-based safety and convenience services for select 2010 model year Toyota and Lexus vehicles. The service, called “Safety Connect” is an available option on all 2010 Toyota Prius models built after August 1, 2009. Services include Automatic Collision Notification, Stolen Vehicle Location, Emergency Assistance Button (SOS), and Roadside Assistance. Should a Safety Connect Prius driver need to access any of these services, they can rest assured that the Safety Connect response center operates 24/7, 365 days a year.
The Lexus brand builds on Safety Connect with a plethora of convenience services, which it dubs “Lexus Enform with Safety Connect.” Lexus Enform is comprised of Destination Assist and eDestination. Destination Assist is a link to an agent, via on-board cellular equipment, who can find a specific address, business by name, or type of business (gas station, restaurant, etc.) and send the coordinates to the car’s navigation system for directions. The eDestination service allows users to log on to LexusDrivers.com and send up to 200 locations to their vehicle’s navigation system, where they can then download the information remotely. Users can give personalized names and add notes to their saved locations. Lexus Enform with Safety Connect is available on 2010 model year HS250h, IS sedan, IS C, IS F, LX 570, and RX350 / 450h models built after August 1, 2009.
The first year of Safety Connect and Lexus Enform with Safety Connect services is complimentary with the purchase of an equipped Prius or Lexus vehicle. One-year renewal subscriptions for Safety Connect will cost you $139.95 per year. Lexus Enform with Safety Connect one-year renewals will cost $264.90 per year and the Enform service only works with navigation-equipped models.
Lexus finally offers the convenience and safety services similar to luxury rivals such as BMW’s Assist and Mercedes-Benz’s Tele Aid. With Safety Connect technology in place on the Prius, Toyota now has the tools to go tete-Г -tete with GM’s OnStar, should it choose to extend Safety Connect through the rest of the lineup.
