Suspected insurance fraudsters rounded in Nelson

A group of suspected insurance fraudsters have been rounded up this week in police raids on 13 homes in Nelson, The Lancashire Telegraph reports.

According to the newspaper, the gang is suspected of submitting false claims involving home and pet insurance, worth Ј300,000.

Documents, computers and other items, including a car and iron gates, have been seized as evidence.

Known as Operation Flashlight, police investigations have been taking place over two years in conjunction with the Insurance Fraud Bureau.

Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph, Detective Inspector Dave Groombridge of Nelson CID said police had taken property believed to have been fraudulently obtained. He also promised further arrests.

Insurance Fraud Bureau chairman, John Beadle, warns criminals that insurers are getting better at spotting these types of fraud.

He adds: “Don’t think they [insurers] are easy targets because we will identify you and the consequences are severe.”
