Pontiac Solstice, Saturn Sky Production Ends
Today marks the last day of operation for GM’s Boxwood Road plant in Delaware. The plant built the company’s Kappa-platform roadsters, the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky, as well as the recently introduced Solstice Coupe. The Pontiac Solstice was first revealed at the 2002 Detroit auto show and went on sale in late 2005; the Saturn Sky launched a few months later. Yet in the wake of bankruptcy and restructuring, GM has killed off Pontiac and is looking to sell Saturn, leading to the demise of the Kappa twins. The Boxwood plant had been open since 1947 and was, according to USA Today, the last automotive plant in Delaware. Delawareonline.com reports that the last vehicle made was a silver Pontiac Solstice.
