Organize the Trunk of Your Car: Save Time

Car trunks become the catch all for just about everything; the kids sports gear, extra fluids for our vehicles, tools, things picked up at the flea market or yard sale, hunting or fishing equipment and the list goes on. All of this clutter and disorganization is costing you time and money.The more junk in the trunk, the heavier it is, which means more fuel is being used to lug it around. Resulting in spending more money for gas. Another way a disorganized trunk is costing you money is when you wind up buying duplicate items just because you can’t find it.

Organizing the trunk doesn’t have to be expensive or a major chore. With a little bit of time and about twenty dollars you can clean up your act. What you will need are a couple of storage containers, plastic totes, plastic crates or vinyl collapsible totes from your local dollar or department store. You might even have unused containers around the house or garage. If so, your getting organized for free and that’s even better!

While organizing your trunk make sure you are ruthless on what you allow to stay. If items in the trunk have not been used for quite some time and are not needed for vehicle emergencies get rid of them. Decide on whether you want to store, sell or give them away. But, don’t put those back in the trunk (Make sure you have trash bags or boxes on hand for the sorting process).

You will want to designate one tote for items such as anti-freeze, windshield fluid,transmission fluid, motor oil,jumper cables, small bag of tools, flares and other items you keep for emergencies or use to maintain your vehicle. The totes will keep everything organized,easy to find, stop the items from rolling around and prevent leaks or spills on the carpet.
