Mercedes Launches mbrace Telematics System
System features include stolen-vehicle tracking, crash notification, voice-guided navigation, and, for those who pay a little extra, Mercedes Concierge, whereby an operator will make restaurant reservations, locate nearby stores, or help Benz drivers with other chores. Where mbrace differs from Tele Aid is with its integration with BlackBerry and iPhone smartphones. Using a special application, drivers can lock or unlock doors and view their car’s location - gone are the days of losing your car in an unfamiliar city or parking lot. The system uses the car’s GPS system to locate the vehicle on a map on the user’s smart phone. Mercedes also says the new telematics platform could easily be extended to offer extra capabilities in the future. Similar iPhone apps for were recently launched by Zipcar and Directed Electronics. Six months of the basic mbrace service comes free with every new Mercedes, as does a three-month trial of mbrace PLUS, which adds Concierge and extra navigation features. After the trial periods end, regular mbrace service costs $280 per year, and PLUS costs $520 annually. Share:
