About two years ago, our spies began catching some interesting Mercedes test cars driving around in the desert. Half Viper, half AMG, back then the car was thought to be called SLC.

Now, after many subsequent sightings, we have official photos of the 2011 SLS AMG and people have long since forgotten about the Viper-based mules on which it was developed. While we doubt the finished product shares much more than a memory with its former corporate cousin, it’s hard to deny the Gullwing’s Viper-esque proportions - likely the reason the Viper was used to hide its identity in the first place.

Check out the overlay we made of the two cars. Aside from obvious changes, there are many significant similarities. Notice how the Viper’s fender vent blends right into the SLS door crease.
