C/D reader Joshua Hannum sent us shots of a very lightly disguised E-class droptop. This particular manfacturer-plated specimen was spotted on the Garden State Parkway and gave Hannum something to look at while he was stuck in traffic.

To recap, Mercedes is bringing its CLK-class under the E umbrella, renaming them as E-class coupe and E-class convertible. We expect the convertible to be outfitted similar to the hardtop, offered as it is in E350 (V-6) and E550 (V-8) trim. The full complement of driver-assistance gadgets should be available on the convertible, which retains the soft top of the CLK.

Judging by this vert’s fit and finish, we should be getting official details on the car in the very near future, perhaps as early as the upcoming Los Angeles auto show.
