Lutz says that even though he thinks the G8 is “too good to waste”, GM can’t make a valid financial case for keeping the car. Apparently, the combination of shrinking car sales, tightened budgets, and increasingly stringent fuel-economy regulations stacked the cards against rebadging the Pontiac as a Chevy. Luckily, Lutz asserts that GM will continue to build rear-drive products, and states that the Australian team responsible for the G8 - and its predecessor, the unloved GTO - will be tapped again in the future.
