You do not want to end breaking a bone or hurting your back by falling in the slippery soap and oil. (You might want to invest in some Tred-Safe shoes. You can get these at Wal-Mart for around $20 or less. This is a wise investment for someone who cleans concrete regularly.)Absorb the excess oil. Act in an environmentally responsible way by using dirt or saw dust to absorb the excess oil from the spill. Once the dirt or saw dust absorbs the excess oil, use a shovel to scoop up the matter, place it in a heavy-duty trash bag, and discard. If you simply try to wash the oil down your driveway, you risk it running onto grass, or in the street, and the oil could eventually end up in your water.Use detergent. You can use laundry detergent to break up the oil that is left on your concrete driveway. Even better, use Dawn dish detergent (the blue kind) because Dawn works quickly to bust out the heavy-duty oil. You can even watch Dawn’s lifting action while you stand over the motor oil stain. Use a broom to scrub the motor oil out of the concrete. Be sure to scrub diligently one way and then change directions and scrub again. Rinse off the grime. Once you have scrubbed the motor oil-soiled spots well on your concrete driveway, rinse (in a downward motion) the dirty water off your driveway. Try to avoid getting any on your grass because motor oil can damage your grass and the soil beneath it. If your driveway is not yet free of motor oil, you might need to repeat the detergent process.
