History of Harley-Davidson - Full Success Story

Those who have a craze for motorcycles are familiar with the loveable sound of the Harley-Davidson motorcycles that have been admiring bike riders around the world for many years.

This is a short story about the success of Harley-Davidson motor cycles.

William S. Harley was 21 years when in 1921, he developed the design of an engine, which was contrived to be fixed on a normal bicycle to run it. After another two years, William joined his friend named Arthur Davidson and set forth to create a single cylinder engine which was again fixed on a normal bicycle of that time. This motorized bicycle was found to be incapable of getting up the hills of Milwaukee without being powered with the pedals. This led them to work further and gain experience to develop an engine to motorize the bicycle.

Within no time, they had succeeded in producing a larger engine of 405 cc that in reality was the first motorcycle from Harley-Davidson. Shortly the Harley-Davidson motorcycle factory started working under a small wooden shed about 150 square feet in size. Now both these friends also received the assistance of Arthur, who was the elder brother of Walter.

After another year, a Harley-Davidson motorcycle participated in the very first ever motorcycle race that was held in Milwaukee.

These people were so much occupied in their work that almost three years had passed since they had started Harley-Davidson factory. They shifted their production facilities to Chestnut Street, which was subsequently named as Juneau Avenue. Harley-Davidson still has their headquarters there even now.
