At first your thinking it could be because your eyesight is getting worse, or it could be that your bulbs need replaced. As possible as this seems, it may in fact be a completely different problem, one that people rarely even think about because it’s not a well known problem to many.

The problem in fact could be due to the type of headlights that are installed in your vehicle. Yes, that’s right your type of headlights. If your car has plastic headlights, you should be aware that these types of headlights are very dangerous and can fog up over time causing a discoloring effect of the lens and causing your headlight distance and brightness to decrease to a dangerous level. So if you notice a decrease in brightness and distance in your headlights you should check to see if you have plastic headlights and if you do, check to see if they are discolored or fogged up.

If it happens to be that your headlights indeed have this problem, the next thing to do is to buy a good headlight cleaner. You have to be careful with the brands and make sure you purchase a brand with good reviews and results so that you don’t end up wasting your money in the long run for a product that just doesn’t do the job in the first place. You could, if you have the money and time and patience to do so, buy a new headlight assembly that is made of glass and replace your plastic ones, but I found that getting the cleaner is a much cheaper route. If you buy a good brand and one that produces good results you should see an immediate improvement in your headlight brightness and distance.

Now you may be asking yourself why car companies still allow these types of headlight assemblies to be sold and why they don’t just switch to glass when there is a well known problem with them, but you have to understand to that they are in the business of making money and making them from plastic is much cheaper than making them from glass. The problem with them is in the fact that most people don’t even have any idea that they have this sort of problem.
