And by working together you can benefit from each other’s good driving record. One good driver on a car’s policy can bring the other’s insurance rates down.

Of course, that goes both ways. If you have an impeccable driving record and your new husband or wife has a black mark or two (or ten) on their license you’re going to be paying a little extra to keep them covered. Make sure you’re cool with that.

If you want to bring your car insurance rates down even farther, consider signing both of you up for a driving safety course. Think of it as a bonding experience! You can go, take the driver’s safety course, make fun of the instructor, the driving videos (could they get any more grade school?) and your fellow classmates, many of whom are there for many less noble reasons than trying to save money, and you can walk away with some great savings on your car insurance.

When you say “I do” you’re signing up for the ride of your life. Make that ride as cheap as possible by doing everything you can to shave money off your car insurance rates.

Who knows? You might be able to afford that second honeymoon in Tahiti after all
