Ford PowerShift Dual-Clutch Transmission
Following the lead of manufacturers like Volkswagen and Mitsubishi, Ford has launched a dual-clutch automated transmission of its own. The six-speed transmission offers both fully-automatic and manual shifting modes, but uses two real clutches instead of the torque converter of a traditional automatic.
It’s available on the European C-MAX crossover and Focus with 2.0-liter turbo diesel engines for Ј1500 (about $2500). Ford says that combined fuel economy for a Focus with PowerShift is 48.6 mpg - more like 40 mpg in the U.S. The same Focus with a manual transmission is rated at 51.3 mpg in Europe.
