Fast-track claims process for car injury victims

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has confirmed that it is going ahead with plans to introduce a fast-track system for compensation claims arising from motor accidents.

The new measures should be in place by April of next year, broad agreement to the changes having already been by reached by interested parties.

According to the MoJ, the new process will provide for early notification of claims; promote early admissions of liability and early settlements.

It also involves fixed time limits and costs being set for less complex claims and the use of standardised electronic claim forms to aid the decision making process.

Personal injury claims for damages of between Ј1,000 and Ј10,000 will be covered by the new arrangements.

Responding to the news, the Association of British Insurers’ (ABI) director general of insurance and health, Nick Starling, says the ABI completely supports today’s announcement.

He adds: “It is now vital that employees injured at work have the same opportunity as those injured on our roads to benefit from this new process, so we call on the Government to extend it to cover employers’ liability insurance claims.”
