Co-op considers “resilient” flood repairsCo-operative Insurance has put out a rallying call to the insurance industry, the Environment Agency and local authorities to work together in combating the growing flood risk in the UK. The mutual says it supports the ABI campaign to ensure that flood insurance remains widely available and is considering the use of “resilient” repairs, looking at ways repairs can be carried to withstand future flooding. Measures could include replacing wooden flooring with concrete and moving electrical sockets. However, addition expense could be incurred and the Co-op believes this should be shared between the local Environment Agency, the insurer and the customer. Currently, one in six UK homes is at risk of flooding but with scientists predicting that events seen in 2007 will become an increasingly common occurrence, the number can only rise.
