Audi Sends Us a Kite

An Audi-branded kite showed up at our office today, emblazoned with ElectricityUntamed.com and the date 9.15.09, which happens to be the first day of the Frankfurt auto show.  We told you about the viral site last week - it contains a few teaser videos that hint that something four-ringed and electrified is coming to Frankfurt. We also know that the concept will be called e-tron. What we found out today is that Audi is clever and that kite-flying is surprisingly fun.

The kite has a key-shaped memory key hanging off of it - you can see where this is going - containing three viral videos and a PDF titled “Why a kite with a key,” the text of which we’ve included below:

Ben Franklin refused to take lightning at face value.

So, on that fateful stormy day in June of 1752, armed with his now-famous kite and key experiment, he set out to prove that electricity was a force of nature.

He was correct, to say the least.

Electricity is the mother of all natural forces. It can split a tree, ignite a forest fire, overpower a bespectacled 46-year-old future Founding Father.

It is both feared and revered.

But it got dumbed down. Underutilized. Wussified. Relegated to toasters and toothbrushes. It helps run glorified golf carts with license plates.

Mr. Franklin would be so disappointed. It’s time to let electricity run wild. Free. Completely untamed.
