Did America realize the impact of cash for clunkers when the program began? Does America know what cash for clunkers is doing to the economy? If you have money, you will never know the pinch “cash for clunkers” has put on America.

Cash for clunkers is a program to get rid of old vehicles, as well as low fuel mileage vehicles off the road. The target was to get rid of the over sized SUVs in America. The idea was that the manufacturers would supply America with fuel efficient vehicles. The problem with this plan is cost.

At what cost to America, are manufacturers supplying America with fuel efficient vehicles. The cost of vehicles is going up. The supply of older vehicles is going down. The cost of old vehicles is going up as well. What used to be old inexpensive vehicles are now old vehicles that cost more money.

Does anyone know what happens to the “cash for clunkers” clunkers? They are disposed of at the junkyard. Never to be sold again. The motors are filled so they cannot be reused. Guess what’s happening to all the old motors that car guys need for their show cars? Motors are being destroyed because they do not perform to new government standards. Is anyone worried about getting old? Under this administration, I am. What happens when we are no longer useful? Will we be destroyed or tossed to the side?

The good news is the metal pieces off of the cars are being recycled and parts can be sold off of the car as long as they are not from the engine compartment. This part of the “cash for clunkers” deal goes a little gray. Depending on the junkyard, you may or may not be allowed to get parts that would make the motor work.

Cash for clunkers is going to do more harm in the long run. Some SUVs are disappearing because there fuel mileage qualifies them for the “cash for clunkers” programs. America needs to realize if the automakers do not come up with fuel efficient vehicles that everyone can afford, some of us will not be driving the vehicles we like. The lap of luxury has changed. Hopefully, vehicles will change without a large amount of cost to the consumer.
