Toyota’s growing presence in Europe has led the Japanese brand to debut a new hybrid model at the Frankfurt auto show. On display will be a hybrid version of the Auris, a model not sold in the U.S. The Auris is essentially a Corolla hatchback; imagine a slightly larger Scion xD and you won’t be far off. There’s no word yet on the powertrain, but in a vehicle this size we’d guess that Toyota will either stuff the Auris’s prow with the 134-hp gas-electric combo from the Prius - which is made up of a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor - or the more powerful 2.4-liter powertrain found in the Lexus HS250h that provides a system total of 187 hp. Both the HS250h and the Prius are derivatives of the Auris platform. We expect more details once the Auris hybrid is officially unveiled.
