Toyota 4Runner Loses V-8

A reader has sent us documents outlining changes for the next-gen 4Runner that show, among other things, a revised engine strategy. The V-8 is gone from the options list and engine choices are instead shifted down to include a four-cylinder and an upgraded V-6. The 4.0-liter V-6 now makes 268 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque, while the 2.7-liter four will put out 161 hp and 184 lb-ft.

Off-road options listed include Crawl Control, Multi-Terrain Assist, a Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System, and Active Traction Control. Other options mentioned in the documents include 20-inch wheels, a sliding tray for the cargo area, and water-repellent seats.

The 2010 4Runner is expected to break cover sometime late this summer or in early fall.
