BMW 550i GT Pricing Announced

As of this December, the 550i GT will be available at a BMW dealer near you at a starting price of $64,725. Sporting the marque’s 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8 - good for 400 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque - the GT will also feature BMW’s first-ever eight-speed automatic transmission. (Look for a full test on this vehicle soon.)
It’s worth mentioning that a 535i wagon rings in at only $56,625, and that a 550i sedan can be had for $61,225. Also, the 550i GT’s bigger cousin - the odd duck X6 xDrive50i - will only cost you about $3000 more than this funky 5er.
But the fact is that the the U.S. isn’t the primary market for the 5-series GT - it was created for places such as Russia, China, and the Middle East - so a premium price isn’t likely to affect BMW’s modest American sales goals much. Given that, the goofy hatchback may just make more sense than you think, and for those who are in the market for a capacious luxury five-seater, this price seems right on the money.
Expect the twin-turbo inline-six-powered 535i GT to go on sale early next spring with a starting price in the mid-$50K range.
